BMW M2 Competition - The Modern Day Driver’s Car

By Jeffrey Mills

A Big thanks to Cars.co.za, WesBank and Panthera Media for inviting us to the Evaluation Day. The day saw judges test a number of vehicles as a part of the Cars.co.za Consumer Awards. We were fortunate enough to go for a ride in a number of vehicles as the judges tested these vehicles. Head over to the Cars.co.za website to find out more about the Consumer Awards.

The BMW M2 was a car that many enthusiasts seemed to have craved for a while, something reminiscent of the E46 M3. Now with the M2 Competition, BMW have added the glorious S55 engine from the M3 and M4, given the car a more aggressive appearance and have found the winning formula.

Out the box, The M2 Competition has 302 kW and 550 Nm of torque. When equipped with the 7-speed M-DCT transmission, the M2 Competition gets from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. Although this is quite impressive, the car’s party piece comes from how it drives.

With a short wheel-base and rear-wheel drive, the feeling of being pushed gives the car a very sporty feel whilst still being comfortable. This car gives the driver, and passenger, a sense of occasion when in motion. Cars today are filled with electronics that sometimes make the driver feel like the car is the one with all the control but the M2 Competition reminds you what the letter M means.

It’s fair to say that not many cars can offer such a driving thrill but can still be used every day. The M2 Competition definitely falls under the category of a modern day driver’s car with a true M-car DNA.
